Mathis, born in 1982, started playing music at the age of 12 studying classical percussion in a music school for 7 years.At the meantime he had private drums lessons with an internationally renowned drummer, Daniel Pichon in the Institute of Rhythmical Art in Paris.
While gaining experience by playing in an harmonic orchestra and various Rock and Funk bands, he realized that music was his life and decided to move to London to study music further.

Thus in 2000 he joined Drum-tech part of London College of Music and Media, Thames Valley University(www.drum-tech.co.uk), and did a one-year diploma followed by a Bmus of Popular Music Performance, which he had with distinction.
He studied with top players such as Paul Elliot, Pete Cater, Bosco D'Oliveira, and Tom Meadows.
While studying he played drums in various bands such as Flexie Muiso (9 piece funk Band), The D'n'B Orchestra, Redcell (Live jungle band) as well as getting into the Jazz circuit.
He thus played with top jazz musicians at the Jazz Café, Uncle Sam's in London such as Gary Crosby, Soweto Kinch, and Tomorrow's Warriors. He is still regularly playing in various jazz combos across London.

Since finishing his studies Mathis has been busy playing around the world with many different bands:

- The Soul kitchen (www.thesoulkitchen.net) a Funk-Blues outfit.

- Batusamba (www.myspace.com/batusambacollective) a 12-piece percussion ensemble.

- Temposhark (www.temposhark.com) an electro-pop band.

- Subterfuse (www.subterfuse.co.uk) a live Breakbeat, Drum'n' Bass, Hip-Hop band.

Mathis has also been busy recording for Universal, Island Records, or Kore studios (www.kore-studios.com)

Mathis has been playing in many different venues in and around London and the UK including: Cargo, Jazz CafÈ, Sheperd’s Bush Empire, Ginglik, 23 Feet East, Epsom Centre, Blues festival at the Isle of Wight, Brecon Jazz Festival in Wales, Nujaz Festival in Montreal, Canada, NightClub in Cyprus & club Drouot in Paris, France.

He is also a busy freelance teacher, teaching privately across London as well as running drumming workshops in any styles: African, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban.
He can cater for any type of events in schools, companies, Hospitals, private parties. Previous clients include Museum of London, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Bloomberg, and various schools across England.
