www.reason4tutorial.com

pay a one off fee of £15 and you get a step by step instructional on the software. Videos are all downloadable for you to keep. He goes through every aspect of it. £15 is a very reasonable fee for all the tuition.

The same guy now runs videos in Ableton too.

I would start by using what you have already 'acquired' properly, instead of jumping from one thing to another in the hope of some magic fix... there is no big red button on a daw that says 'HIT' It is work , work, work.

I agree with you Pete...too many people making dirgy crap. We are in a sea of mediocrity

yeah best bet... is to try and stick with just one or two D.A.W .... you have to be patient...it don't come easy right away...there is a big learning curve for sure... I been producing dance music since 1990...and still learning something new all the time.

as to the point about every tom dick and harry...agree 100% but depending in what circles you mix in...there is some outstanding, ground breaking, original music... with the amount of digital labels about...its so easy to find pro standard music from amateur and bed room producers....but there is also loads of utter sh*t.... that should never be uploaded to the internet

yeah i'm taking my time on reason, I really enjoy it, its the kind of daw that you can just spend hours on coz its just so damn good, I am just getting to grips with the effects and the connections, you know when you press tab and it flips round i've only just discovered that on that reason vid, and i'm practicing mixing, just trying to get my music simple and clean, not over complicated and too amny sounds, the best music is just that I think, but yeah I will be patient, I have learn to be patient , I was really ill at work today so I had to take my time with everything, and it tought me to be patient, and it really humbled me, you might not know what I mean but fair enough, i'll keep learning and thanks for your advise guys as always but the learning always carries on, peace guys, I hope you make the music you have been dreaming of and wishing for.

I would say Reason is the best introduction to MIDI and learning about synths and sequencing, pretty much everything really. Mr Mancini pointed me to it a few years ago and it was like opening a magic box. I guess i wouldnt have got back into music without it which is pretty mad really. These days i hardly ever use it, but as we are now rehearsing for live sets ive suddenly realised the other side of Reason, the Vast sound libary means for live work its bloody brilliant, 1 midi keyboard, 1 laptop and your off. Its like rediscovering it all over again.

one thing I do want to learn how to do is I think its called automation effects where you arm the track on a high pass filter for example press record and then just tweek the effect as desired, they always do that kind of thing in dance music with synths, it is a very important part of production really, you can't just have synths doing the same thing throughout, I think I can do it on ableton but not sonar so this is why I have to use so many different daws, plus the built in effects in ableton 8 suite are really good, it also has lots of presets, ableton is such a great daw too so I want to use that aswell I feel its wasted, I see all the great features on all sonar 8 producer, ableton 8 suite and reason 4 and I feel it will benefit the song greatly, these are the very best from the programers these are the newest ones, i'll get there eventually.

I now know how to automate in sonar, its easy really you just click the w on the track you want to automate and then you can adjust the volume, pan it or edit a vst effect, just click play from the beginning and space bar when you are done automating, then you can listen to what you have done, that was mainly all I felt I needed to find out but i'm sure I will find many more things to learn.
