| | Posted: Sat 04 Oct 2008 21:42 | | up to about 2 weeks ago i never had to or particularly wanted to learn any tunes by heart, i always had the music in front of me. Does anyone have any tips as to how I can learn fairly short tunes by heart, other than just playing them over and over, which is what im doing with some success atm, coz when i do this i actually feel like im getting worse!

Its the old addage though, one day at a time, one hour, one minute etc. Break it down into managable sections,..... verse, chorus, bridge, even a few bars at a time if you feel the need. It is said that the human attention span is questionable, particularly in learn mode. Break it down into manageable sections that you feel comfortable with.
As soon as I start getting frustrated with progress I humbly accept that the piece I am learning needs to be broken down even further. Hell sometimes I'm down to 2 bars at a time, even less if there are more than 2bpm on a lead solo lol.

I get the tracks on a CD and just play them in the car constantly. It's funny how many details you start to pick up.
