My drums are looking a bit weary - I've had the bulk of the kit for close to five years. I'm not gigging as much these days as I used to but I've decided to pick up at least one crash and maybe a new ride.

Problem is, my budget is tight at the moment, so I'm thinking it has to be second hand stuff. I've always just gone down to the local drum store so my used gear sources are very limited - any do's and don't's? Any places I should be looking? Any stories of buying second hand anyone would like to share?

Cheers, Tom

I know nothing about drums (other than you hit them ) but my viola and bass clarinet both came second (or in the case of my bass probably 3rd or 4th) hand and I would say that you get what you pay for. Well maybe slightly better than you pay for. Although my viola isnt great and is a horrible orange colour, it is probably worth a bit more than was paid for it. Same with my bass clarinet even with shiping from canada and import duty (or whatever its called) it was still an AWFUL LOT cheaper than the cheapest new ones and makes a pretty good sound.

That's cool. I'm finding that second hand could be the way to go, at least until I come into some cash! My drums are quickly becoming a hybrid beast of different makes, ages, conditions...

Are there any websites for second hand instruments that people would recommend? Apart from the obvious eBay etc...

That's why it's "God Was Never On Your Side", you know, just sending out a message to people in case they still believe in God: Wrong! God is not gonna help you, God is not answering your prayers, you can pray all your life and you never get a ****ing thing. God is deaf, blind and stupid. I don't like the devil either, they can both get ****ed."
