why? cos the site is free and attracts freeloaders and timewasters, since we did the change to free we have hardly any cashflow to pay for updates to the site, nor upgrades to hardware and software, not being able to pay for decent advertising, the list goes on.
Things will change, that's all I'm saying for now. I want this site to go back to how it used to be - and that was a community of True musos, who had decent profiles, engaged properly in the site, plus the site being easy to use and being of good value.
So it can't really get much worse but it can get a whole lot better, lets try again shall we.

| | Posted: Thu 07 Jun 2007 13:47 | | Well, i think we're talking about two different things. A lot of you are talking about the forums, and we don't really focus on them as they are more of a bonus to all members, so when you say 'improve the share your music forum', what more can we really do? The same for the 'threads getting spammed' issue, as a forum attracts peoples comments/views and theres not really a lot we can do about that.
I'm talking about the searching aspect, the contacting aspect and the ads/events etc. That's something we can improve. The forum has always been a 'use at your own risk' type affair.
Regarding the free change and the Gold memberships - well Gold membership has never really changed, people paid right from the word 'go' for Gold membership, and they still do, they used to get better listing and features, and they still do. So Gold members have distinct benefits to regular members. What I'm talking about is the Free membership regarding using the site for searching and contacting of musos.
Anyway, there's gonna be an update soon and we'll detail it all next week (or there abouts).

Thanks for the reply Stoo, Point taken about the way people comment on threads...but you DO have forum rules, and maybe people should try to keep general chat in general chat...thats all Im saying, I'm not the only one who has raised this issue before...some members have mentioned blocking etc..
The other thing I'd like to point out, again I'm not the first to mention this....The forums are probably the best tool here, ie potential of networking with other musos for collabs etc..If you look carefully you will see that many succesful tracks have been created by regular forum users getting together with ideas...Anyway, I think the forums are an important part of the fee, for me anyway...I'd probably not consider it a fair price without them.

1 I think the forums are fun and Share your music can give useful feedback but in my own experience though the forums have been fun I have to say due to this site I am now in two bands and have met numerous people for jam sessions etc but none of those are regular forum users (don't know if I am either really tends to be fits and starts etc) so it has nothing to do with the forums
2 Stoo referred to True musos and this has come up before people often talk about this on here and complain about the lack of but it can be very alienating - some people are professional others play/write/sing for fun or a second job but do it regularly and others have done but don't now but there seems to be something for everyone, probably best to avoid hierarchies and divisions - like having a doorman at the Co-op
