Hi I'm Paul.

I've been playing bass properly for about 8 years. I also play guitar but much prefer bass (nothing to do with the fact it has less strings i promise!) I think the bass is a very important part of music, especially in rock music which tends to be my preferred playing style. My influences come mainly from punk and indie. Bands I like include Rancid, Sex Pistols, Green Day, Reel Big Fish, Madness, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, Muse, Manic Street Preachers, The Beatles...

I have played in many bands, mostly punky stuff, but my most 'successful' was Dharma who I played many gigs with a first in Southampton where we were from and then some London gigs when we moved up there. That band was more like Radiohead/Muse so much more indie than punk. My style borrows elements from my punk influences, I tend to go for a powerful sound and play with a plectrum which gives me a bright and punchy sound, but also like to be melodical with my bass playing. My knowledge of scales and chords helps me to form quite interesting bass riffs but i also know that some times just playing the good old root notes is sufficient!

I have a degree in Commercial Music from the University of Westminster if that means anything???
