Hello, I'm John McLellan. I've played the drums for 10 years and I live Edinburgh, Scotland (& also Stirling from time to time). I play all sorts of music, ranging from Rock and Funk to Jazz and Death metal (bet you didn't think you'd hear them in the same sentence). I have a solid ground in metal drumming and my foot work (double and single pedal) has been described by my ex-tutor, Ted McKenna (Alex Harvey, Average White band, Diana Ross) as "Expertise". Ted also showed me a lot of funk drumming and recently I have become more interested in this genre, along with Jazz and also DNB.

I practice about 2 to 3 hours a day, but I've been known to play up to 13 on the odd occasion. Truth be told,my practice isn't religious, but any lack usually gets compromised at some point. I'm capable of some pretty difficult independence, like 5/4 against 3/4 over 4/4, or 7/4 against 3/4 and often I have to sit down with people and prove I can do it. I'm a click friendly drummer and usually record to one, however my natural timing is as accurate as I could ask. My highest Drumometer count so far is 177 singles in 10 seconds and 974 in 60. With an official score of 904, I believe I'm Scotlands 3rd fastest drummer (I'll take it!).

I'm currently free for session work, since the artist I was working with (Carter) split up. I've also played with a few bands around the Stirling area and I've never been turned down for an audition. My old drum teacher used to forward a band to me if they needed interesting or technical footwork. Until now though I have been focusing on my studies rather than bands. Now that I have left, I wish to work with music for a while. Ideally I'm more interested in doing studio work at the moment but gigging is fine with me, so anyone interested in hiring me please leave your email address or phone number, or both and we'll arrange prices and stuff.

I have an Electric drum kit in my flat and I am available for teaching. I have tutored people before with good results and even those who only took one lesson left with a better understanding of technique and how to practice properly. So please contact me if you are interested in lessons.

I have both acoustic and electric drum kits and a few triggers.

Thanks.

Tutin.
