We're looking for band to take part in the forthcomingh event; Extr-ABBA-ganza!

Extra-ABBA-ganza will be a fund-raising event, all profits to go The Society of St James, and will be held at The Talking Heads, Southampton, on a date to be confirmed soon, (probably January or February 2009)

The idea is simple: around 10 bands, as varied in style as possible, will each play 2-3 songs from the oeuvre of the mighty ABBA, in a style of their choice- (“radical interpretations” are actively encouraged!). There’ll probably be a compere and a raffle to keep things ticking along between bands too.

In order get this many bands on stage in one evening, all the backline will be shared- just bring your guitars, drumsticks, voice or whatever you else play. There’ll be amps, DI lines, mics and a drum kit, and a couple of music stands waiting onstage for you, and someone to show you to where to plug in. We’ll be aiming for a very fast turnaround time between bands (under 10 minutes) -this means there will be no opportunity for a proper soundcheck, -your monitor mix may not be perfect- but we hope everyone will be prepared to pitch in and enjoy the chaos!

(Oh yeah, if any bands want to do acoustic sets, or send only a couple of members down to play, that’s fine too)

What’s in it for you?
-This will a cracking night out- we confidently expect The Talking Heads to be rammed- so you’ll get a chance to play to the fans of all the other bands, who otherwise may not have heard of you.
-You’ll be contributing to a good cause
-Most importantly, it’ll be REALLY GOOD FUN!

We’ll sort out a fair way of deciding running order and song choices once we’ve confirmed the bands for the night, but I can guarantee that each band (if they want to) will get to play at least one song from what we consider to the ABBA “Gold” list....

Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

This initial email has only been sent to a select few of our personal favourite bands, the ones we REALLY want to play… but there’ll be a more general call for bands soon, so please reply with a yes, no or maybe, so that we some idea of how many slots are left free.
