I am a singer with a powerful voice & ability to play in a range of different styles including most permutations of Folk, Rock, Metal, Punk, Ska, Dance/Trance, Goth & some Hip-Hop/Rap. I have 10 years' experience of vocal performance. I've sung for many bands including Livid, Fruit Tree, Skelliga & Foxtrot Uniform, as well as solo studio & live work. I have played a support slot for Napalm Death, done vocal sessions for Lady Morphia, played Strawberry Fair free festival in Cambridge, recorded 3 EPs & various other projects, & played gigs & festivals all over England. I also have an HND in Popular Music.
I am creative, able to jam off the cuff & am open to learning new concepts, styles & techniques for a project. I cannot read music but have a very good ear & can pick up a song quickly. I write lyrics & vocal melodies/harmonies, but not full songs & I can do anything from love songs through protest & socially conscious to rage, hate & pain!
I am available for both band & one-off session work, lead and backing vocals.
HISTORY
For as long as I can remember I have been in love with the stage. At age 5 I played a fairy in a performance of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and from that moment I was hooked. I continued acting throughout my childhood, but it was when I started having singing and guitar lessons in my teens that I knew my heart belonged to music. I practiced with a few bands but got my first real taste of music performance doing a backing vocal session for Lady Morphia's E.P. Pangaea, which subsequently received a 3 ½ out of 5 review rating in Metal Hammer magazine and sold in alternative shops across much of Germany. In 1999 I recorded with my first full band Livid for the Bishop's Stortford High School's annual band CD. I have been addicted to music performance ever since!
TO THE PRESENT DAY
I have recorded in various projects and performed live with several bands, including backing vocals for Fruit Tree, supporting Napalm Death at the Square in Harlow and lead vocals in Skelliga and Foxtrot Uniform. I was with Skelliga for over 3 1/2 years, during which time we recorded 3 E.P.s and toured across England, playing many gigs and festivals. We were invited to play Glastonbury Festival but unfortunately split up before it happened. I wrote most of the lyrics for Skelliga and was also responsible for much of the publicity material, including the band biography, flyer/poster design and assisting with our original website design.
INTERESTS
My interests include music, reading, writing, travelling, dancing and going to festivals, clubs and gigs. I have performed in many bands, recordings, plays, re-enactments and traditional Mummer's plays and have busked at craft fairs. I also enjoy driving, swimming, cycling, skating, walking and hanging out with friends. My husband and I live on an English narrowboat on the river Cam in Cambridge and have navigated it around the inland waterways of much of Southeast Britain. I also own a Leyland DAF long wheel-base ex-minibus, now a camper van, which we usually stay in at festivals and when travelling. My hair has been almost every colour under the sun and has a habit of changing regularly! IDEAL BAND
My ideal band would mix the styles of Within Temptation (operatic, melodic metal, angelic, powerful vocals, heavy guitars and pad sounds on the keys), KMFDM (anarchistic metal industrial with some spoken word, awesome guitar sounds and very complex sampling and sequencing) and The Levellers (anarchistic folk punk metal with violins, attitude and non-essential doggies on string!) I would love to meet any/all of the following:
GUITARIST x 1 or 2 - Ideally one lead guitarist capable of classic heavy metal solos but who knows when not to 'widdle', and one rhythm guitarist who is creative with soundscapes and pedal effects. If you can sing, that would be an extra bonus!
KEYS/SAMPLE PROGRAMMER - Someone who could rival Sascha Konietzko (AKA Kap'n K of KMFDM) on samples/programming, with classical-influenced piano playing and pad sounds/soundscapes on the keys.
DRUMMER - Someone capable of both 'Animal'-like heavy-metal bashing, and more complex break beats and jazz drumming. Double pedal and love of toms would be nice but not essential!
BASS - Ideally able to play both fretted and fretless bass (maybe double bass as well?!) with complex melodies, occasional effects and a punky edge. Think New Model Army meets Type O Negative!
OTHER INSTRUMENTS - strings (especially electric violin) would be wonderful, as would some occasional brass/woodwind (saxaphone perhaps). The programmer can take these jobs though, if they feel capable!
